Men Who Make Me . . . Hum
June 1, 2014
Okay, I know I said I wasn’t going to write much about writing, but first I have to put some demons to rest. Yes . . . I did work as managing editor for Playgirl Magazine. And not once, but twice!
I also worked for Romantic Times (convention coordinator), For the Bride (editor in chief), I’ll Take Romance! (editor and publisher) and Animus Entertainment (senior story editor), but I have to say that working at Playgirl was probably the most fun I’ve ever had. True, at For the Bride, I got goodie baskets filled with luxurious cosmetic items—but at Playgirl I was inundated with fun stuff like edible panties. We never knew what outrageous item would arrive in the day’s mail.
The editorial staff, during my second tenure there, kept a list of “Men Who Can Make Me Hum.” And yes, hum is a euphemism. We had a saying, you see: “If he can make me laugh, he can make me—well, hum.”
Here’s my top ten list.
Men Who Can Make Me Hum
This bad boy just has the devil in him. I catch his monologue every night before I sleep, for good belly laughs. What will I do after December?
Crazy, sexy and chuckle-licious! His take on himself as a disabled father walking around with his two very able kids is a riot!
If smart is the new sexy, this guy is a genius (on both levels). Who else could come up with Ted, Stewie, and Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey?
I love his take on politics, and his outrageous irreverence only strengthens my faith.
He’s just so darn cute, enthusiastic and mischievous. I’m a huge fan of his Thank You notes.
Possibly the most hysterical episode of Two And A Half Men was Alan getting injured after falling off the roof because he wouldn’t call the cable guy.
Tim Conway as the Dentist who shoots himself with Novocaine, or the Old Man at the dry cleaning counter are comedy gold—and they’ll leave you rolling on the floor.
Everything he does is funny. It’s his impishness that gets me going. He just looks like he’s having so much fun.
Who could forget him on SNL as James Carville, or the irrepressible Stefon? Can’t wait to see what he’s going to get into next!
His portrayal of Antonio Banderas, and his turn as Mango on SNL are equally funny. I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Corky Romano.
